Possible Destiny 2’s Expansion II leak may reveal title, new content

We're still months away from Destiny 2's second expansion, so could this leak really be legit?

Despite Destiny 2‘s first expansion, Curse of Osiris, launching less than a month ago, dedicated players have already made their way through a majority of the new content. In turn, the community is ready for the next story expansion. While it won’t arrive until sometime in spring 2018, we may already know some key details thanks to a purported leaker.
Recently, a Reddit post claimed to reveal details about Expansion II, notably the name of the DLC, setting, enemies, and Crucible expansions. However, the post has since been removed, but thanks to a speedy user on the Bungie forums, the details have been copied to a new thread. First off, the second expansion will allegedly be called Heralds of Nezarec and take place on Saturn’s sixth moon, Enceladus. One area of the planet will be the Frigid Wastes, further suggesting icy terrain will be involved, with 10 story missions to make up the entire campaign. Also, three new Strikes will be added to the game—Sanctum of Darkness, Bal’zoth’s March, and Rasputin’s Defense—for PvE, along with a new raid lair called Prison of Nightmares.
As for the expansion’s story, Guardians will fight alongside Rasputin and the Gunslinger Ana Bray (the latter having been teased through hidden lore in the Tower) to take down the main antagonist, Nezarec. Strangely, it seems two new enemy races will be added to the story, the Frames and the Heralds. Apparently, all of the battles will lead to a tease for a possible third expansion or Destiny 3, which will expand the mythos around the mysterious force called the Darkness.
While the supposed leak supplies a great deal of enticing information, there are many reasons to take it as pure rumor. The original Reddit source for the leak said they received the information from data mining Curse of Osiris, and while it’s possible Expansion I could hold details on Expansion II, it seems oddly convenient they just recently discovered the notes. There’s an active community of data miners delving into each new piece of content, so if this information had been there from the start, it would’ve been the top discovery. It’s also odd to think Bungie would introduce so many new story elements in one expansion, especially two new enemy factions and a strong lead into Destiny 2‘s sequel. For now, players will have to wait on official word from Bungie before getting too excited.
Fans have been speculating over the contents of Expansion II since the launch trailer for Curse of Osiris was revealed. In the final moments of the footage, a teaser image for Expansion II showed a female Guardian that many believed was a Titan. Due to the icy terrain in the image, players also speculated the events of the DLC would take place on Europa. While these details slightly match up with what was leaked, there are too many questions left to answer before being confident in what to expect. Guardians can at least cling to the fact that spring 2018 will bring the new DLC, and until then, more details are sure to arrive officially.
Players can still get in the chilly spirit with the current holiday event, The Dawning. New Crucible activities, like Mayhem mode, are allowing for better drop rates of Curse of Osiris collectibles, like the materials needed to unlock the Lost Prophecy Exotics. Plus, Tess is selling special gear to commemorate the holiday event, so Guardians should return to the game daily to earn as many tokens as possible to buy the new inventory.
Destiny 2 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Amazon.
