Mega Man X games coming to current-gen—but maybe not how we thought

The latest Mega Man announcements also included some very good news for Switch owners.
Megaman X games coming to current gen

During Capcom’s 30th anniversary celebration livestream of Mega Man, the company announced fans will have a new way to revisit the X franchise. Arriving in 2018, all eight entries in the Mega Man X series will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
As a part of Capcom’s look back on the Blue Bomber’s influence in the gaming world, players will now have the chance to revisit their favorite entries from the series of games that followed Mega Man’s struggle against Sigma. It’s unclear if the collection of games will be sold in a collection, much like the recent releases Mega Man Legacy Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, or if every game will be sold separately. According to the team, more details will be revealed in the new year.
Fans of the Legacy Collection games will also have the chance to pick up both games for Nintendo Switch, as the team announced they will be arriving on the platform next year. The collections will have amiibo support, but with only two Mega Man-themed amiibo available—Super Smash Bros. Mega Man and the Legacy Collection Gold Mega Man—there might be a chance more characters from the series will be made into the physical figures.
Mega Man X through Mega Man X3 released initially for Super Nintendo, but have since been ported to various platforms, including PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Nintendo 3DS. The middle entries in the series, Mega Man X4 through X6, all released originally for PlayStation, with X7 and X8 debuting on PlayStation 2 and PC. Capcom released a Mega Man X Collection in 2006 for GameCube and PlayStation 2, but the grouping only included the first six titles in the series.
Capcom had other exciting news for the Mega Man franchise during the stream, including a new game in the main franchise. More news about the future of the franchise and the recent announcements will be unveiled in 2018.
