Take-Two announces indie label and some huge games already on board

A new Obsidian RPG and the latest from the creator of Assassin’s Creed find a new publishing home at Take-Two's Private Division.

Grand Theft Auto and Bioshock publisher Take-Two Interactive is spreading its influence into the independent scene with a new publishing label focused on supporting top independent developers.
The label is called Private Division, and it already has some major studios onboard, each with promising projects underway. The developer list is highlighted in the label’s official reveal trailer.
The new label will currently supporting Obsidian Entertainment, Squad (acquired by the publisher earlier this year), Panache Digital Games, V1 Interactive, and The Outsiders. These teams are headed by some of the most talented developers in the industry, like Panache’s Patrice Desilets, who headed the first two Assassin’s Creed games, and The Outsider’s David Goldfarb, who lead the design team on Battlefield 3. In addition to the individual talent, several of the studios have proven histories of development success, such as Squad’s Kerbal Space Program and Obsidian Entertainment’s work on the Fallout franchise.

As for what the future holds for these studios with the backing of Take-Two, not much detail is currently available on the various projects, but we do have some preliminary information. Panache Digital Games is hard at work on an episodic survival game called Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, Obsidian seems to be sticking to its guns with an unannounced RPG in the works, The Outsiders have shown off some of their Project Wight title, and V1 Interactive is slaving away on an unannounced sci-fi shooter. As for Squad, the studio still has its attention on its wildly popular Kerbal Space Program.
According to a Private Division press release, none of the label’s in-progress games are expected to launch before or during the publisher’s upcoming fiscal year (April 1st, 2018, through March 31st, 2019), so fans shouldn’t look for these games any time soon.
