New Destiny 2 Exotic is giving PvP players unfair advantage
Among Curse of Osiris' new weapons is a broken rifle that needs to be stopped.
Guardians have been pouring their energy into Destiny 2‘s recently released expansion, Curse of Osiris, to obtain as many new pieces of gear as possible. Apart from the new story and missions to complete, the DLC offers a handful of Vex-themed Exotic weapons that are bound to make Nightfalls, raids, and Strikes more manageable. However, players have quickly realized one new Exotic, the Prometheus Lens, is giving PvP players an unfair advantage.
Several Reddit threads have been created since the expansion’s December 5th launch to warn about the broken nature of Prometheus Lens. Players will recognize the weapon from Bungie’s marketing of the DLC as the solar-based Coldheart, and while it works similarly to the trace rifle, it has a few features that make it impossible to survive against in PvP. In a video from Reddit user Vetoed, seen below, another Guardian is using the Prometheus Lens to wipe out every opponent within seconds.
It’s not surprising Prometheus is a powerful weapon, as the Coldheart was already a go-to choice for players taking on the Leviathan raid due to its continuous laser being easy to control. However, the new Exotic comes fitted with two mods that make it broken, including an attack boost that increases the longer the beam is shot, and an ammo refill for every kill achieved. Thankfully, Bungie is now aware of the issue and is reportedly working on a way to fix it. According to a tweet from Destiny 2‘s community manager, DeeJ, the weapon was shipped with a bug that will be addressed in the upcoming ‘This Week at Bungie’ blog.
While frustrating, dedicated Destiny players will remember Exotics have been shipped with broken bugs before. In the first game, the Vex Mythoclast was an Exotic fusion rifle that was initially able to fire off extremely powerful energy shots in rapid succession. By season three of that game, Bungie had nerfed the gun to keep PvP players from exploiting its power.
It’s good to see the developer is going to tackle Prometheus Lens’ problems earlier than Vex Mythocalst’s, but we’ll have to see how long it takes for a fix. Destiny 2 is set to receive another update on December 12th that has been worked on since before the launch of Curse of Osiris, meaning it may be too late for the developer to make any additional changes. In turn, Guardians might see Prometheus Lens banned from Crucible activities for now.
