GTA Online’s latest update is hiding a Red Dead Redemption 2 mystery
New assets in GTA Online might hint at release date news for Red Dead Redemption 2.
Newly unveiled files from Grand Theft Auto Online‘s new heist may have revealed a weapon that you can earn for both GTA Online and Rockstar’s next game, Red Dead Redemption 2.
Evidently, files found in GTA Online‘s latest update contain assets that hint at an upcoming treasure hunt. A character model titled “dead hick” in the update’s files will lead players to a treasure chest marked with the “Boles Overland Stagecoach Co.” logo from Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshots.

The chest contains a high-falutin’ six-shooter that unlocks a new Rockstar Games Social Club challenge. According to text found inside the files, completing a 50-headshot challenge with the weapon “will unlock GTA$ and an exclusive variation of the weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2

Even if you don’t play GTA Online, this could be a good sign to fans waiting patiently for anything related to Red Dead Redemption 2, most notably a release date after the game was delayed until (at the earliest) April 2018. If Rockstar is willing to roll out Red Dead-related assets, it could mean we’ll see a release date announcement sometime in the near future.
